Flowers, books, and friends! Thanks to everyone for the tremendous support today…I so appreciate you!
Every once in a while, a ewe will give birth to a lamb and reject it. There are many reasons she may do this. If the lamb is returned to the ewe, the mother may even kick the poor animal away. Once a ewe rejects one of her lambs, she will never change her mind.
These little lambs will hang their heads so low that it looks like something is wrong with its neck. Their spirit is broken.
These lambs are called “bummer lambs.” Unless the shepherd intervenes, that lamb will die, rejected and alone. So, do you know what the shepherd does?
He takes that rejected little one into his home, hand-feeds it and keep it warm by the fire. He will wrap it up with blankets and hold it to his chest so the bummer can hear his heartbeat. Once the lamb is strong enough, the shepherd will place it back in the field with the rest of the flock.
But that sheep never forgets how the shepherd cared for him when his mother rejected him. When the shepherd calls for the flock, guess who runs to him first?
That is right, the bummer sheep. He knows his voice intimately.
It is not that the bummer lamb is loved more, it just knows intimately the one who loves it.
It’s not that it is loved more, it just believes it because it has experienced that love one on one.
So many of us are bummer lambs, rejected and broken. But He is the good Shepherd. He cares for our every need and holds us close to His heart so we can hear His heartbeat.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” ~John 10:27-28
We may be broken but we are deeply loved by the Shepherd.

2019 Artist Alley is Proud to Welcome…. Annie M. Cole
Known for her colorful characters and distinctively Southern locales, Annie Cole has a true passion for storytelling. She credits her ability for weaving an imaginative tale to her Creator and every story about this Southern life finds a way to point back to Him. Descending from a long line of storytellers, Annie is indebted to her family whose captivating stories of life instilled in her a love of legends and folklore which she artfully intertwines with the deeper truths of her faith. She and her husband make their home in the Muscle Shoals area (Tuscumbia) near the banks of the “Singing River” where they enjoy the art, music, literature, and faith of their community. To date, Annie has written five novels with a sixth book in the works. When she is not writing, she loves spending time with her family, speaking to community groups, and enjoying the outdoors.

“I don’t think there’s anything on this planet that more trumpets life than the sunflower. For me that’s because of the reason behind its name. Not because it looks like the sun but because it follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the sun across the sky… Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that’s such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life.”

79th Annual Holly Springs Pilgrimage
April 21 – 23
Celebrating our 79th year, Pilgrimage is the annual tour of homes and churches in the historic town of Holly Springs, Mississippi. Famed author William Faulkner based his fictionalized Yoknapatawpha County on a diary found at a Holly Springs plantation. Join us for a weekend of that famed history with tours of historical homes, churches and museums; a guided tour of Hillcrest Cemetery; luncheons and a great “Southern style” dinner with live music and dancing Saturday night.
I’ll be giving a talk on my latest book, Summer’s Keep, which is set in the fictional town of Noble, Mississippi, at Montrose on Saturday, April 22nd. Come on out and join the fun!
Enjoy entertaining and educational performances, presentations, and demonstrations by authors, musicians, artists, and historians throughout the weekend. All events are free and will be held, unless otherwise noted, on the grounds of Montrose. A full schedule of events and times will be listed on printed guides at the pilgrimage headquarters.
We’re ready to Riot! Who’s with us?
The Shoals area is known for music, but that doesn’t mean that’s the only art we have. The Reader Riot book festival is our way of showing how excited we are about books and stories, the characters in them, and the characters who write them.
We are here to panhandle poetry, nuke you with nonfiction, and light a fire under literature.
Shoals readers are ready to riot. Who’s with us?
Join Author Annie Cole and a few of our friends for this riotous event! Beginning at 11:00am on Friday, April 28-29.
“A PRAYER: The supreme prayer of my heart is not to be learned, rich, famous, powerful, or “good,” but simply to be radiant. I desire to radiate health, cheerfulness, calm courage and good will. I wish to live without hate, whim, jealousy, envy, fear. I wish to be simple, honest, frank, natural, clean in mind and clean in body, unaffected—ready to say “I do not know,” if it be so, and to meet all men on an absolute equality—to face any obstacle and meet every difficulty unabashed and unafraid. I wish others to live their lives, too—up to their highest, fullest and best…”

Rocket City Lit Fest
We are Readers. We are Authors. And we are committed to making reading fun and accessible to everyone.
The planning team has a dual mission to accomplish for the first RCLF
-
To celebrate the written word and storytelling in its many forms with a fun-filled festival featuring engaging panels, bestselling authors, and entertainment.
-
To bring passionate and experienced speakers and educators for a program focused on overcoming the barriers to reading and promoting literacy as crucial for improving comprehension in all fields.
This multi-genre exhibition is taking over the Von Braun Center’s sprawling South Hall. You’ll find the authors (except the Special Guests), publishers, and other vendors as well as the strolling entertainment, inflatables, reading nooks, and the festival food here. We’ve set aside a Ballroom for the main events (including VIP signings) and meeting rooms for panels and workshops. We’re selling booths and tables now through our registration page, so be sure to keep checking as we add new authors and vendors to the event!
Natchez, Mississippi – One of my favorite places to ramble around. If you’re looking for an escape from the chill, look no further. Hop on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Nashville, Tennessee and enjoy the relaxing ride all the way down to Natchez, Mississippi. You’ll feel the stress melt away with the Winter snow.
Spring Pilgrimage March 7 – April 7
Twenty-four antebellum mansions, most of them private residences, open their doors to visitors during this four-week Pilgrimage every spring. Your guides are costumed family friends and descendants of the original owners, whose stories are as real as the bricks and mortar in their hearths. Each house is unique with 18th- and 19th-century furnishings, porcelain, silver, clothing, tools, documents, and diaries.

God’s grandest messages are not loudly self-assertive. His most fragrant flowers, unlike the hollyhocks and the sunflowers, do not challenge the attention of the careless wayfarer, but hide under the cool hedgerows and only betray themselves by their sweetness. Our dearest and deepest joys are not those which we have in the glare of publicity, but those which cluster round about us in the home. ~Alfred Rowland, “The Clouds: God’s Angels of the Sea”.
